560D quit, won't start

Took a few tractors up to Penfield, IL this morning for the big show. Had a great time, but my little 560 wheatland decided to quit running. It was idling, made a quick knock, and quit. It turns over fine, no unusual noises whan cranking, but no smoke out the stack, so it's not getting fuel. Me thinks the injector pump isn't turning. What is the common cause for this? I'm going to give it a shot of ether in the morning to make sure it fires off, but I'm sure it will. Is there a pump drive shaft that fails, or is there an internal pump thing that fails? Thanks for the help!

If the injection pump head seizes the drive shaft is designed to twist off to save the gears. If you remove the timing window cover you can see it the pump is turning.

THe last thing on earth I would do is ether a 460 or 560, they just dont handle it well. I blew the head gasket on a 460 once that way.

Years ago I had the timing gears go bad. For sure check to see if fuel pump is turning before you go any further. If fuel pump is turning than disconnect hose from final fuel filter at pump to be sure that silly hose in not blocked! Let hose flow for at least 5 minutes. That hose can look good on outside but be bad on the inside. Let us know what you find. Armand

I took off the timing plate- pump is not turning. So what is a fair price to get the pump fixed? I'll be taking it off and sending it somewhere- no local pump shop. Thanks for the help-

Sorry about the different screen name- don't know what caused that. Anyway, thanks again.

Who says it's the pump that's broken?

There's a whole train of gears and shafts that transmit power from the crankshaft to the injection pump. Anywhere in that chain could be broken.
