I have an original IH sickle bar mower that was on a Farmall Super A and i'm wondering if it was possible to also run this mower on a regular A Model? Was there a way to hook it up to an A Model and be able to operate it with manual controls? It'll bolt on to the tractor but I need a way to lower the mower blade down and pick it up ,were there original brackets or linkage for this so that the mower could be operated manually on the regular A model tractor?.....Thanks Very Much!

fs6613; something must be wrong w/you. Operate is manually?? Are you an old fert that has a rotary knob to turn the tv channel; maybe you grind beans for coffee!! Hats off to you for this project. Maybe you have already tried it, otherwise I could suggest searching the great archives. Subject or author search (I can suggest the late Hugh MacKay, as he had a few offset Farmalls; although I believe he had belly mowers) worth a try. Good luck w/your project. My grandpa, then passed down to my late dad, had an A. Wish I had paid more attention to old stories he told about his life on the farm/neighbors, etc. Folks lots smarter than me will probably chime in...other old ferts that may recall just what you are looking to do. Hhhmmm, maybe time next week to get my flat top re-cut and some of the gray removed.

fs6613; I did an archive search and wow! An awfully lot of posts to did through. Did you post this on the 'Implement Alley' board. I did an 'Implement Photos' search and Otis in MI has a neat little setup. I put a manual lift a Super A just to adjust the mower, but the mower for the Super A with the shaft for the long rod to attach to doesnt lend itself to being able to lift the cutter bar with out a lot of fabrication to add a lever lift to the hydraulic lift mower. Better to find the right mower. I have a lever lift A-21 (ithink that's the right#) I would sell, but I'm in FL.
