400 pinion bearing replacement

While doing the brakes on the Farmall 400, I found the outside ball bearing cage on the pinion shaft was broken.

Can the pinion shaft be pulled out from the transmission with just the disc brakes removed?

Or will I have to pull out the pinion bearing cage after the the bull gear is dropped?

Thanks

Don

on your 400 the bull pinion will pull right out. no need to remove the bull gear like on a straight m tractor. it"s your luckey day you found a problem before it caused serious breakage.

that will allow you to change the outside bearing, but if you need to replace the inside bearing the cage will need to be pulled.

Thanks for amswering my question.

I've heard and read horror stories about things that fall into the bull gear area.
