I was told you are the 2 to talk with about 39 Farmall A serial 5312 need a hood is it a 1 year deal or will something else fit. It has been converted to starter. Are trans and rear gears the same as other A.Thanks for any help
 
Tranny and gears are the same. Starter shouldn't affect anyting about the hood.

An original hood for your tractor that anybody would part with would be a RARE find.

I don't think the dimensions of the tin on the hood changed any between the early ones like yours that used the Dzus fasteners and all the later ones with the J-hooks.

If that is the case it shouldn't be hard to adapt the tin from a later hood that fits well. Just lose the J-hooks and put the proper holes, properly aligned, in it to allow the fasteners to be installed and do their jobs.

Your tractor chassis will already have the backside of the fastener in place.

I'm thinkin' the biggest challenge to noodle out will be where to drill the hood to get them to line up with what's on the chassis.
 
That type hood was used (A and B) through serial 40192, about the end of 1940. I never checked the length to see if the later ones are the same. Maybe you could grind off the brackets for the hook type retainers and drill it for the early style.

The lubrication of the transmission changed at serial 39022. The case changed, the slinger gear was added etc. A lot of the internal parts remained the same.
 
Your hood is the same length just the fasteners are different. Alos your radiator has a different shroud to accept the Duez fasteners also the brace is different thqt holds the top of the radiator so you need the hood with those fasteners. I just sold the last one i had. I will get back with you in a couple of days as i mite know where one is.Is yours to bad to repair as it mite be better to get it fixed than finding a good one. Drop me a line
