More Dumb F 12 Questions

My F12 is running way too rich and I cannot reduce the gas flow with the high or low needle valves. On the single fuel gas tank there is a tee that appears to be a return to the tank. It has a small brass tube no it that goes inside the tank. Is there a flow restricter in this tee? Also how do you set the float height ? The manual wants the gas level to be 23 to 25 32,s below the rim.How can you do that with the carb.assembled? X-RAY eyes?

Take off the drain plug & put a fitting in with a clear plastic hose. Have the hose along side of the carb & you can see the fuel level. I would guess there is something wrong with the float or the needle & seat are not closing right. There is an orfice going back to the tank that has to be open.

Bill,on all of my F12&14 I drill the return to the tank out a size bigger.Im not sure if a newly rebuilt fuel pump doesnt pump more than the orginials. The float is very critical on these machines,to much fuel and it will flood, not enough it doesnt want to start.Check and make sure your float doesnt leak fuel this will caues it to smoke black.,and has someone sodered on your float, this will make it heavy.

Yes, that Tee has a small hole in it. If its clogged it can cause it to run rich. You set the float with the top off of the carb. I set mine dead on to spec and it was still too rich, so I put an extra gasket on the seat, and drilled the hole out in the tee just a little bit, and started running Autolite 3077 plugs. Shell start on the second crank 9 times out of 10.
