It Worked!!! (am amazed!)

Last night, my '44 A fired up and ran for the first time in over 5 years (It was my dads). I thought I would NEVER get the mag timed right. I never did find the blessed "D.C. No. 1 mark on the flywheel". I couldnt even figure out what opening I should be looking in! But I finally got it anyway. I replaced the mag, rebuild the carb, broke and replaced venturi in the carb, broke sediment bowl bail, used bailing wire to make sediment bowl work (Dad would be proud!), and it fired off in less than 10 pulls of the crank! It leaks everywhere! gas, oil, transmission, you name it, it leaks. It barely idles. It smokes like a forest fire. It needs a lot of fine tuning, but holy cow it WORKS!
Now...more parts are needed.

Congratulations! You are now a member of the Adidted to antique tractors club. My name is Corey and I am an addict...... (all say HI Corey)! LOL

isn't it funny how the small things will make you feel good. I am 70 and still have a part of grandpa and Dad's farm. when I mow around some of the old horse drawn equipment I still think of them... Thanks and enjoy the minories

I have the parts to make your carb right and extra strap for sediment bowl. Send me your old carb and I will put it on a tractor , make all the adjustments so it's setup perfect. All you pay is shipping the rest will be free. Send to Dan's Auto 19070 Los Encinos Ln

Let me if I can help, Dan.

I have 3 in my 2 1/2 car garage plus a few extra parts here and there! 2 A's and one B! And the Wifes car still fits and all the doors can be opened!

That mark can be hard to find. When i have one split i will paint it white. Easy to find TDC though on that engine as you can see the piston when it is at the top. You will need some seals for the rear and tranny and then redo the steering sector but you will have a nice tractor when done you can contac me anytime if yo9u need some help. I have three of em and some spare parts.

Wow, thanks everyone. Yes, I have been bitten. I think I caught a fever, and it got worse when I heard the tractor rumble. (Hi, my name is Aaron...) About that mark on the flywheel, what opening was I supposed to look through? Thanks Dan for the offer, but the carb is completely rebuilt and I should just need to get the adjustments right. As for the bail, there is a local guy a few minutes from my house who has a Ton of Farmall tractors that he sells parts off of. The only thing I'm not sure about getting there is the screen that is part of the elbow attached to the carb. But, I'm about to start a new thread about that. Thanks again everyone. I'm still excited!

The hole is in the bottom of the flywheel housing just behind the engine. (under the tractor)
The mark is notoriously difficult to find, so do not give up. Finding TDC is discussed on many threads in the archives (a place you will like) Jim
