problems with a loping engine in an MD

When my engine idles or up thru full throttle with out a load, it has a tendancy to lope or surge. What could be causing this? Also the pressure gauge on the pump says to replace the filter but I have a new fuel filter installed. I took off the factory filter and installed an aftermarket spin on type fuel filter. I didn't have any problems with pressure before with the aftermarket filter.

Not sure about the filter you have there. However the surging can be helped by adjusting a bumper screw with a lobe in the injector pumps side cover. IF you have at least the the I&T manual it will show you how to adjust.

Replaced the pressurized main filter or the aux filter? Spin on filters are mainly intended for pressurized operation and don't do so well in the gravity fed filter.
