1066 water in rear tires

I had the fluid in the rears removed last year. It seems that this tractor has a lot more back and forth rocking motion to it these days and wandering if maybe they didn't get all the fluid out and that could be causing the problem. Just imagine that the rear tires are eight sided and that is what it feels like rolling down the road. Not near as bad in the field under load. Just how much fluid would it take to cause a problem. I know the Co-op sucked it out with a pump but they admit that there probably is some still in there.

I have one tractor with tires full of fluid and one never had it. The one with fluid is rock solid but the other with air only will bounce or rock. The fluid will not compress and when the tires are full, no where for it to go so it rides pretty firm. Air will compress so you will get more movement from it.

As for adding fluid or not, to me, it depends on what the tractor is used most for. If it is mostly for heavy tillage on hard ground, fluid works good. If most of the use is on loose ground like planting, I like the air only set-up, with duals and add weights if needed.

It sounds like there is still about one quarter full. Just bring the valve stem to the bottom and remove the stem it should blow the rest out. You might have to do that 2 or 3 times to get it all out. I have done that quite a few times and have no problem at all. Erik..

This tractor sees very little heavy tillage and has plenty of iron hanging off the wheels. I use it for baling, brushhogging and light scraper work.

If old Hugh were still around, he'd extol the virtues of sucking those tires dry, removing all the iron, and hanging axle duals on it.

All tractor rears are a little bit "square." They're never perfectly round, and cheap tires can be pretty bad in that respect.

IMHO, the weight of the fluid forces the tires to flex and conform more. Empty tires will bounce.

Water balloon vs. air balloon... The water balloon will flatten out and roll smoothly across a surface, while the air balloon will bounce across the same surface.

BTW, the fluid doesn't "sling around" inside the tire. It will pool at the bottom no matter how much/little there is, and no matter how fast you go. The only way it will sling around and create an out of balance situation is if it's frozen solid.
