I bought a 460 that we drug out of the woods changed the fuel filters, drained the old diesel out and put new in, drug it with another tractor and a little shot of starting fluid it fired up. drove it around and on the trailer it went. Well i can't get it to start on its own now. they guy said it sat for 4 years. Put new glow plugs and had starter rebuilt and still nothing. The motor just seems like it isnt turning over fast enough, like somthing is dragging it down. I've heard that they need to turn fast to start but i just dont think its turning fast enough. 600 rpms or so till the batt dies down. Any help would be great because i'm stumped. thanks

600 rpm should be fast enough. I take it you're seeing smoke out the stack while cranking? What happens if you try towing it again? Good luck, Sam

Their could be a rubber fuel hose from the final fuel filter to the fuel (injector) pump. Disconnect at fuel pump and check fuel flow for at least 5 min catching fuel in can. These hoses have been known to go bad on the inside stoping 99.9% of fuel flow while looking good on outside of hose. In owning a 560D since 1965 I have replaced this hose twice. Next to check after replacing this hose would be hand primer pump if it still has one. Let us know results. Armand

600 rpm cranking speed , holy cow, you could plow with that. Min cranking speed is way less than that. Make sure you are continuing to hold glow plugs while cranking as they cool off in about 5 seconds with fuel shooting on them. Compression is everything to having them start along with good cranking speed. The 460 always was minimally equipped when it comes to a starter. You need good heavy cables and lots of ampere hour battery capacity. If it runs ok one started, fuel to and back from pump is not the problem, but if it doesn't it may well be. Even a slight restriction in fuel return can cause no fuel delivery along with requiring a full flow to the pump.

I'm sorry i meant around 200 maybe it hit 300 1 time. been holding the plugs maybe i'll put some new cables on it and how many batteries 2 or just 1?

i thought about that hose ur talking about, it's getting fuel it just doesnt seem like enough i'll pull that hose off and check it / get a new one. thanks

It's smoking but not all the time.maybe fuel? when i towed it again i had no luck. and it was rolling smoke.

just because you put in glow plugs, did you check if they are working? if your rolling smoke pulling you have a glow plug problem, otherwise it would start as soon as you dump the clutch, like in 10ft it would be running.

Originally two 6 volt batteries in series for 12 volts. They were smaller than the 560 batteries but when replacing put in the bigger ones. Need all you can get. Some guys use two 12 volts hooked parallel. I personally prefer the two 6 volt but that is just my opinion. I think they make a little neater installation but some place good heavy 6's are hard to find.

checked glow plugs and their getting hot. put new keyed switch and all new push buttons on for glow plugs and started stumped. will check rubber hose but i think its flowing, will also take off fuel return and blow through it. thanks for the help i was in the dark before i found this place

getting fuel from main hose to pump, return line is clear.. maybe new batteries and cables? have any idea which fit or should i just measure and try to find something that will fit?

If it doesn't start by pulling it, putting in new batteries and cables is not going to correct the problem. As long as the glow plugs are working look to the fuel system and get it to run by pulling it before spending too much time on the starter and batteries.

It should start even without the glow plugs but you have to pull it a long ways. Mine has to spin over for about a quarter mile of pulling it to get it to start without the glow plugs working.
