350 Utility change to IPTO

My new 350D Utility doesn't have IPTO, how difficult is the changeover- anything other than the IPTO unit and handle required, and what do you have to pull apart?

If it has a PTO now, and no TA (TA delete from the factory), it will take way too many parts. There might be hope if it has a TA, as the drive tube for the constant running PTO drive night be there.
In either case there are many more than the unit and lever needed.
If it has no PTO, and a TA it might be that simple.
If it has TA bypass (TA removed with a kit)
it might be as easy as if it had a TA. caseih.com for parts descriptions. Jim

It has a functioning T/A and PTO, single Hydra-Touch/Fast hitch. So if I get a unit and lever, I may need additional (internal?) parts?

The key to your problem lies in the serial number suffix. Sounds like it has a "R" which is TA attachment with provisions for transmission driven PTO. If the serial number ends with "P" or "S", just do as you initially suggested.

If you want IPTO, buy another tractor cheap (needs work) with the "S" suffix. Use the center section and rear section.

This will work but you may find that the IPTO will not run at the proper speed (540 rpm) if buying a row crop. I think the IPTO driven and driving gears are different between the models. You will have to check the parts books.

You need to understand that the IPTO gets its power from the clutch pressure plate. The transmission PTO gets its power from the constant mesh gear and countershaft in the transmission. This changes alot of parts. The easiest solution would be to swap your Diesel into a "S" suffix Utility with a bad engine

Well there you go, it is indeed an "R" suffix, and the IPTO I located is all the way across the country. Sounds like there's quite a few internal pieces needed to drive that critter, is it a fairly easy install/replacement, or would you have to break it apart? The parts would be available off the donor tractor, but the price could be prohibitive if it's a big job to pull them. Sure would be sweet for mowing, as I wanted to get away from the tranny-driven PTO on my 8N. I really like the tractor, spunky-sounding little critter and not too beat up, and it came reeel cheeep- if it had power steering and IPTO, it would be very sweet

Many thanks, gents

Your choice of donor tractors doesn't have to be limited to 300-350. You should look into 330, 340, 460. 504, 606, and maybe 656-686. The last two tractors are a WAG as I have no experience with them. Again, study the parts books.

Yes, it is a double split as well as replacing the counter shaft in the transmission. I wouldn't go to the trouble. Buy the tractor you want and sell your 350.

Another question, my clutch pedal has a slight twist to the left, and I assemed it was slightly bent, but I'm looking at a replacement, and it appears to have the same "attitude", slightly to the left and back- is this normal, or are they both bent?

To change that type setup to IPTO you need to replace both pto drive gears near the front of clutch or center housing, the pto drive shaft that passes through the transmission countershaft. Add a pressure plate with pto shaft drive splines if needed, may have the splines if plate was changed over the tractor lifetime. Add the shaft and couplings that goes from center pto drive shaft to the pto unit and the pto unit. Reason both drive gears need changed near front of center housing, is the top drive gear and shaft with the IPTO drives from the pressure plate and ones with a t/a and transmission driven pto drive from the clutch plate. Reason the lower pto drive gear needs changed is its a different size and ratio than what you have because the planetary pto has gear reduction built in. You need drive gears from a 300 or 350 with IPTO, others will be the wrong gear ratio.
Its not a hard job to change the parts once the center housing is removed. May be a big job to get to that point if not equiped to handle or move heavy objects.
Noticed wardners post, yes some of the tractor models he named that came with a planetary type IPTO will have the same gear teeth count.
