IH300 Utility - Changed Hydraulic Oil, now problems?

I have searched the forums but I'm left with two specific questions. I changed the hydraulic fluid and right after I had gotten the air bled out, I have a very bad leak coming from the tachometer cable. Two questions: 1) Could it be that this type of oil (I used Traveller's for Older Tractors from TSC) simply develops too high of a pressure? 2) Do I have to rebuild the pump to fix the leak or is there supposed to be a little metal swedge that fits on the square tach cable? Many thanks in advance.

First off, you want to use HY-Tran equivalent oil, TSC oil is ok, but i do think you have the wrong one in there now. As for the leaking sounds like you have a seal out in the pump allowing oil to get to the dist / tach drive.

The tach hookup is below the distributor and the distributor is dry. Thats why I'm wondering if there is supposed to be a swedge that fits on the end of the cable - it looks like there is one in the pics of new cables. I'm wondering if possibly there was just gunk holding it closed with the old oil. Does anyone know the part number for the unit that feeds the tach? I can't find it in the parts diagrams on caseih.com

Thanks Andrew but I guess its one of those days for me....that link doesn't work. If you can tell me what section its in or if you can email it to me, I'd appreciate it.

That tach drive has only grease in it. Any hydraulic oil should not be there. It definitely has a seal out in the pump. If you did seal the tach drive, it would fill the housing, and flood the distributor/points. Not a good idea.
The pump seal should not be had to replace See archives here, or take it to a hydraulic shop. Jim

TSC has a few different types of hydraulic oil. Read the labels. You want the one that says it's Hytran compatible.

"Develops too high a pressure" is just silly talk. Pressure is a function of the pump, not the oil. If it developed too high a pressure you have a blockage in the system before the relief valve.

The seal was just ready to let go. Maybe the air bubble in the lines was the straw that broke the camel's back, as it were, but there's no use in fretting about it. It would've blown sooner or later, but probably sooner.
