MD Head question.

I know MD heads are notorious for cracking, but could someone enlighten me as to where they normally crack? Also if they are cracked, would a machine shop that does the head work be able to repair it? Is repairing even possible? Thanks for any comments.

usually between intake and exhaust. but i've seen them crack between exhaust and starting valve. also seen cracks run all the way up injection ports(those ones you throw out). some head shops fix cracked heads. some can't be bothered. you'll have to ask around.

no problem to get them repaired as long as you find a reputable shop that specializes in head repair. they can be stiched or welded.

Mine had a minor crack that was stitched back together. I had it looked at by my machinist and he said it was a good repair. It's back on the tractor now with a new head gasket and other replacement parts and runs great. Main thing is to let them cool down after working them before shutting them off.
