What color are the axles painted on a Farmall C?

They looked black, but it wasn't paint. They may have been parkerized.

I'm pretty sure they were masked and not painted. It's pretty hard to slide wheels on paint, but I could be wrong. When I painted my tractors, I first sandblasted the axles, taped them off for the primer and base coat, but I clear coated them to seal the natural steel look. It came out pretty nice. I had no intention to ever slide those axles around anymore, as I didn't do any rowcrop farming.

Maybe get some spray on rust remover prohibitor protector on those axles and they will stay rust free for a long time.

Originally they were not painted. I don't know if they were treated some other way or not. They always looked bare steel to me.
