IH 504 opinions

I'm looking at buying a 504 w/ a loader for helping clear and grade my 4 acres. I plan on hiring out the heavy stuff like stump pulling and using this for the remainder of grading and maintaining afterwards (mowing and such). Does any body have any opinions on this tractor and any advice on what to look for when i check it out (i mean any failures specific to a used 504 i should be aware of). Thanks for your time!

I have a 504 Rowcrop model. It's a light tractor built on the same frame as a C (I think). You'll need extra weight, I always keep a heavy scraper blade on the 3pt hitch when the loader is on it and front weights without the loader.

If that's what you need make sure the clutch is okay, loader work is hard on it.

If it is a gas engine, then you should know the engine is not sleeved. I have a Farmall 504 and it is a great tractor for the jobs like making hay and pulling a 2 bottom plow that I do around here. Most of the 504's I have seen working have a loader on them, so there must be something to it. Hope I could help, good luck on your endeavor.
