Farmall 400 gear and ground speed

On a Farmall 400, I'm looking for the approximate ground speeds in each gear, with 12.4X38 tires at stock rpm.

Also, any info on different gearing the 400 row crop might have. Thanks in advance!

This is from www.external_link and is for a 560, but should give you an idea of what the speeds are. Your will be a little slower
Speeds: With 16.9-38 rear tires.

Gear
1-TA 1.5mph [2.4kph]
1-DD 2.2mph [3.5kph]
2-TA 2.6mph [4.2kph]
2-DD 3.8mph [6.1kph]
3-TA 3.6mph [5.8kph]
3-DD 5.4mph [8.7kph]
4-TA 5.0mph [8.0kph]
4-DD 7.5mph [12.1kph]
5-TA 11.2mph [18.0kph]
5-DD 16.6mph [26.7kph]
R-TA 1.9mph [3.1kph]
R-DD 2.8mph [4.5kph]

The numbers below are likely with 13.6-38, 12.4 will be slightly slower--direct/TA

1 2.5/1.69
2 3.85/2.6
3 4.83/3.26
4 6.71/4.53
5 16.7/11.27
R 3.33/2.35

Is there anyway to figure out the changes in ground speed from the size of the tire?

Using the firestone tire chart and using the square inches for the diameter of the tire?

Is there a formula?

Get the "rolling radii" from Firestone. Divide that number from the big tire into the same number of the small tire. It will come out as a number less than one. Something like .92 but do the math to find out. Multiply that number by the speed given in CNKS's post. That will give you the speed with the small tires in any gear you select. As you may know, tire wear on your tires will affect the MPH. But not a whole lot. Slippage will also have an effect.

(As a side note, notice the correct use of the words "affect" and "effect"). Thanks Miss Grundy.

all the speeds are going to be 3.2 percent slower than the speeds giving you if you figure the rolling circumference in the firestone chart . the speeds given are for 15.5x38 and you wanted 12.4 The rolling dia. is 178 for 12.4 and 184 for 15.5

From GSS-1063 for a Farmall 300 row crop
11-38 tires @ 1750 rpm

gear T/A reg drive

1st 1.7 mph 2.5 mph
2nd 2.6 " 3.8 "
3rd 3.5 " 5.2 "
4th 4.5 " 6.6 "
5th 10.9 " 16.2 "
rev 3.1 " 3.1 "
