Northern Tool Supply has 30" straight and curved tire spoons. I would like to be able to put on and take off my own tires on my Cub and other tractors. Does anybody have advise on what to buy and more importantly how to use what I buy ? Thanks, Lou

Yeah, a couple 30 in spoons and a hand-held bead breaker is all you need. Try to find some old school tire guy to show you how. It's pretty simple but the little things he will teach you are important.

You should be fine with Cub on other tractors I have found in 60 years of changing tractor tires that 4 plys are easy, 6 plys somewhat harder, 8 plys and up best left to pros. The above is for unloaded tires fluid filled tires are another story. JMO.

First off you want 2 of them and you want the ones with the curve in them. As to how to use them send me an e-mail and I'll send you a couple pages from a manual that tells you how to do your own tractor tires

I have a tire spoon from Northern and it bent very easily using it on a 38" Farmall H rear tire. Look for auctions or garage sales to find older ones when they were made well. I used a Harbor Freight tire changer on my Cub front wheels. Once anchored down it works well and has a good bar with it.

The local tire shop looked at my new innertube like it was a purple/green space alien. Took my tire/wheel home, patched the old tube with a kit and still have my new tube as a spare.

Used an S10 truck to break the Bead and 2 old tire irons. (jack handles)

I prefer to have one curved and one straight. A curved one works better for taking the first bead off and I used both for the second bead. I use both for putting them on. A new helper I hired this year prefers a 6 inch curved for putting the first bead on. I need to see how he does it. So it is personal preference. My Dad only used leaf springs from a Model T his whole live. Knowing the tricks is more important than the tools.
