364 international PTO

The PTO stopped engaging on the 364 after running a bushog for a few days. The PTO shifter had been changed to what looks like home made one and the shift lever had been welded on the other end. When replacing this what issues might occur? Thanks....
 
Hi Danny, Could you provide more detail?
Does tractor have 2 stage clutch, ie 1/2 way down stops transmission all way down stops transmission and PTO? When you attempt to engage PTO do you get like gears grinding or like PTO lever is not connected to anything?

Reference caseih.com, parts,364, attachments 6-32, items 4 and 5. Sometimes the pin on item 4 shears off as it fits in a grove in item 5 that is a collar that connects PTO shaft from clutch to PTO shaft in the rear.

Hi Danny, sometimes the cause of the pin on item 4 shearing off is that the PTO clutch is not adjusted properly and the PTO shaft from the PTO clutch never stops turning and the Operator forces the PTO into gear. I believe to replace item 4 the hydraulic housing must be removed for access.
We are assuming that item 4 is the problem.
We had tractors on our family farm with the same setup from 1962 to 1994 and put many thousands of hours on them and all we ever did was adjust the PTO and transmission clutches.

Danny, OOPS, I was mistaken about having to remove hydraulic housing to fix item 4. I found this post in the archives:

Check to see if the PTO engage lever has possibly come disconnected from the sliding collar. This has happened twice on ours with the PTO engaged. If my memory is correct there is a roll pin that breaks on the engage lever. Not hard to fix, just take out three bolts on the PTO lever and pull the assembly out, replace the roll pin and re-install.

Thanks, I guess I'll pull the housing off to make sure what the problem is and then go from there. adjusting the PTO clutch, I'll have to read the manual. Strong little tractor.
