Im needing 1 or maybe 2 depending on price. but ive had sellers tell me that they made different cylinders for planters, cultivators, mowers. My dad had a 48 H, same as i now do, He also had the 2 row planter, and cultivators for it. He didnt like the IHC belt driven mower so he stayed with $5 JD sickle mowers for over 50yrs. Anyway, I can only remember him haveing 2 cylinders. Was there a difference in cylinders, or not. Im wanting one for my IHC sickle mower. I might want 2 for at least cultivators. So, whats your thoughts.

You can buy different size cylinders, but the original IH cylinders we had were used on both a front and rear cultivator and a semi-mount 3 disk plow. A LOT of difference in weight, same cylinders. A decent cylinder or two bought from a farm store will be fine for what you want to use them for. A loader is a different story.

I am no authority on implements but I think, for the most part, the standard ag implement cylinder across most brands is 3.5" or 4" by 8". IH used alot of 3.5" x 8". They also designed some implements around the 2.5" x 8". Both these cylinders were also used on C thru 560 fast hitches.

The double clevis cylinders were quick disconnect without the need for tools. Farmers would move them around from implement to implement.

There several
All (of the ones i think you are discussing) are single acting and have a ram that is contained in a sleeve on the business end, with a single mounting tab with hole on the cylinder end.
The two most commonare distinguished by either having three tie bolts/rods on the outside, or four. The four bolt cylinders (If I remember correctly) are about 1/4" larger bore than the 3 bolt, and will stand more pressure. When the pumps were set to 650 the three bolt were supplied, I think the four bolt were made when the systems Liftall belly pumps were set to 800psi. At least it is what I remember. Jim

That is the way I remember them and I was there when it happened but senility has dimed my memery more than a little.
