IH 2-18 Plow

Recieved a 2-18 plow from my great uncle. Looks like a IH number 8 on rubber with non-spoke wheels. Has 2 adjusting levers for depth. beam numbers are: no. 1 is 17184 and no.2 is 12572. The mouldboards are stamped with and IH stamp and numbers. Knowledgebale folks i have taked to have never heard of a 2-18 from IH. Anyone got any ideas on indentifing this plow?

Are ya sure you are measuring that plow right?

Don't think IH ever made an 18" plow with less than 4 bottoms.

Get out your ruler and measure from the center of one beam to the center of the other beam. The measurement will be exactly 12 inches, 14 inches, 16 inches, or if it is indeed an 18, then that is what the measurement will be.

according to my McCormick Tractor Plows, moldboard and disc book A-576-MM they did make a Genius in 18" in 1 and 2 bottom . I would have guessed not otherwise.

i bought this book on ebay a few months ago i'm guessing it was printed in the 40's as it has H's and M's shown pulling some plows. I do not know the years produced. I do not have a scanner or i would make you a copy. Try googling the book you might find one somewhere.

robgIN, according to the code you gave, you have the same piece of sales literature I have from 1949. According to my PO-4 parts book, the 18" #8 was built "1930 and since". And the #8 was built 27-60, so one could assume it was built up to 1960. If you have pressed steel wheels, your plow may have been 41 and later, provided the wheels weren't swapped later.
So, try ebay and such. When searching, my sales literature is titled "McCormick Tractor Plows" and other similar titles. Binder Books reproduces the parts books for an arm and a leg.
