I know live hyd on an M is hard on cam gears. I was wondering if I only use it in summer would I still have to change the gears? Thought cold weather did Made the pump turn harder and did the gears in. thanks Bernie

Weather won't make any difference -- and it might not need a cam gear if you only have light loads. My M has an M&W pump, I doubt if the cam gear has been changed. Only used on a blade or mower.

It's really not that big of a chore to change the gear. Half a day if everything goes at least half-way-right. Don't know how hard the updated timing covers are to find, but I got a brand new gear from Tisco for under $200.

Hi for light work the gear will be fine, I installed a live pump on a "H" used it with a farmhand loader got used the most in the winter for snow removal never had a problem sold the tractor about 20 years ago and its still going. I never abused it now if you use a loader for cow manure, or lifting big round bales that would be a whole lot harder on everything.
