Hello everyone. My brother was bush hogging with my IH B414 and after about 1 hour or more the suction filter was BLOWN out and hanging on the suction line. My question is - Is there supposed to be a pressure relief anywhere on the fluid resovoir. When checking the fluid level last week I noticed when the fill plug was unscrewed there was a release of compressed air when it was removed. My book shows a different picture of the resovoir than my tractor has. Please, all help and tips greatly appreciated. Tnx Joe

Hi Joe, there is no breather on a B414 hydraulic oil reservoir. The system is a closed loop. Was the suction filter clogged? There may be a slight positive pressure when the hydraulic oil gets warm and the positive pressure helps keep the system in prime.

Tnx JimB I can't say if the filter was clogged or not as the filter paper was torn off and the metallic end (Inside end of filter) of the filter was torn almost off. Anyway I have a new filter ordered. By the way, the picture in the manual shows a filter retailer and I don't have one, never did. It looks to be a simple 90 degree angle that bolts on with one bolt and covers the filter edge. Should I fabricate one or not. Thanks again, Joe

Hi Joe, re caseih.com parts: item 3 3044368R93 FILTER FILTER ASSY, SUCTION.
I recall that the suction filter was a wire mesh screen with a solid circle plug in one end and the suction pipe in the other end. To clean it was just wash in solvent and blow dry with compressed air.
Only caution was to pull filter straight outward to prevent damage to screen.

Replacement part may have changed in 40 years.

Hi Joe, we had B414, 434 and 384 from 1962 thru till about 1992 when we traded 384 for 495. We put many 1000s of hours on these tractors and none of them had a filter retainer. The filter was just help in with the O-Ring and the suction tube connection.

Thanks a million for all your input Jim, I really appreciate your help. Take the rest of the day off and go fishing....
