Hydraulic pump on M.

1). Can the hydraulic pump be left engaged all the time? I've got a two way IH valve on it, and will be combining wheat. Or is it better to engage and disengage as needed.
2). I have a new battery box for the M and was wondering what it mounted to under the tank?
Thanks for everyones' help.

The hyd. pump always pumps oil if it is a live pump. If it is a belly pump it dosn"t pump when the clutch is disengaged. It only is under load when you activate the valve. What model combine and what is controled with hyd? Platform height? Anything else? Armand

The pump is fine being "ON" all the time. As long as the system is open centered to the reservoir it will be the same as if it were just left at the hold position. (The pump runs when the clutch is out, it just pumps in a small loop inside the unit. With it "ON" all the time, the loop is just larger, it does no work. It mounts to two bolt holes in the casting. Combine is either the model 60A All-crop or the Model 30 John Deere. Yes, it's for header height control.
Is the tree valve open center? I'm new to all this and appreciate your patience.
