Cleaning Carb

My BN will only keep running if I keep the choke closed, causing me to believe the carb is dirty. Starving the engine of enough gas. The main jet behind the drain plug seems to be the problem. What is the best way to really clean these ports/jets? Can they be drilled out with a micro-bit?

Usually, simply taking the carburetor COMPLETELY apart and then cleaning each part individually with spray carburetor cleaner and then with compressed air is adequate.

It's very unusual for a piece of crud to be so securely lodged that you need to drill.

Also make sure the gas is coming out of the tank in a good steady stream.

Carb spray cleaner is ok if the carb isn't too dirty but I prefer using the "soak" treatment. Most automotive stores sell a 1 gal pail of carb dip cleaner with a small wire basket for soaking. Take the carb completely apart & put all the pieces , or at least what you aregoing to reuse, in the basket then let them soak in the cleaner for 24 hrs.

When I remove the parts from the cleaner I use a spray cleaner & air to get any crud off the surface & out of any passageways. After assembly I like to spray the outer surface of the carb with a spray laquer to seal it.

Thanks for the advice. I was able to get the primary jet out without pulling the carb. Cleaned it thoroughly and it seems fine now!
