I have a 450 farmall that will go into gear but won't move. We split the tractor and the four pad clutch is quit worn on the flywheel side. But the chutch shaft while in the tractor and with it in gear spins freely. The spline looks good. Is the something inside the gear box thats broke? newbee any help would be great.

If the clutch was working OK and suddenly stopped working, then it is likely not the clutch, as slippage will get worse gradually and occur first in the higher gears. On the other hand, if you mean everything turns with one wheel off the ground, and no noise, then it probably IS slipping and at least the disk needs replacing. So, when you let out the clutch with the engine running and both wheels on the ground, does the engine die or continue running?

If it has a TA, the TA direct clutch, and the TA one way clutch may be toast. A rebuilt TA assembly is reasonable (shop Hi Capacity, Ag Parts and Allied for the best buy. If it has no TA, (TA delete, or a aftermarket eliminator shaft),the trans and final drive could be at fault. The brakes would slow everything forward of and including the differential. If the brakes will slow it, the pinions and or bull gears might be broken.
If the brakes make no difference, then there might be problems with the trans. I would make sure to try high gear as it is direct input to output shaft. If nothing, it is time to pull off the top of the trans. Jim

Both tires on the ground, tractor split and i'm turning the chutch imput shaft freely with it in gear. The engine would run and stay running when I put it in gear but it wouldn't go anywhere.

The shaft on the right is probably the one you are turning by hand. At the far end is a coupling. It may be stripped. That shaft rides inside the hollow shaft with the gear. That is the IPTO driving gear and shaft. If you are turning that and the IPTO lever is pulled back or floating between engaged and disengaged, it will turn by hand.

There is another shaft called the sun gear in the TA. It has splines that plug into the TA clutch. It could be stripped.

You need to look at some exploded drawings of the tractor. You may be able to diagnose the problem sitting at your desk. Goto the parts section of caseih.com for an on-line parts book.

Please let me explain how it happened, we was pulling a disc and went to turn a in a diferent direction pushed it the clutch, let it out and the tractor stopped moving no noise, no grinding,
quit moving the motor stayed running we could put it in all gears. but when we let out the chutch it won't move. So we split the tractor, chutch pads are a litte worn. I'm thinking it wasn't the chutch after all.

You say the engine stays running but the tractor does not move when you let the clutch out. Did the engine bog down severely? I know on this type tractor is was common for the shifting forks to get worn and it can get stuck in two gears simultaneously. I can tell you how to fix this if that sounds like the problem.

No bog you can run through all the gears with the tractor running. Let out the chutch and it gos nowhere. So not I have a tractor that is split wondering if the chutch was the real problem.

This happened once to me while plowing. The key that is cast into the wheel sheared off alowing the axle to spin freely.
