How do you know for sure??

Im working on a 240u international and have a feeling that it is not the correct engine in the tractor. I think it is possiably be a model "C" engine in the tractor but how can I tell for sure what I have ???

(quoted from post at 21:17:37 06/09/10) The C would have a C113 engine in it, the SC would be a C123, and I think the 240 is also a C123 but it may have been a bit bigger in bore size.
The 123 indicates the cubic inches, or in this case 122.7 to be correct. The HP increase in the 240 was by other means, RPM, timing, compression, etc. There was only about a 5 HP increase in PTO and drawbar from the SC to the 240. A 113 would probably fit, or other 123 engines from the Super C, 200 or 230 tractors and maybe from other sources, like combines.
What makes you think it may not be a 240 engine?

The version of the C-123 for the 240 had a water pump and fan assembly that bolts to the block. The earlier versions had the water pump in the inlet elbow and the older style fan assembly.

(edited to change "head" to "block")

I have a video of my 240 with the hood off (pulled it to seal the tank)... might help in identifying... or might not... can't remember how much detail I videoed...

The 240 stuff starts about a minute in...

Your engine loooks to me like the original type for your tractor.

I just noticed my previous post said the water pump bolts to the head rather than the block. I hope that didn't cause confusion. I went back and edited it in case anyone else reads it.

I'm not the original poster... I was just posting it as an example for him... figured in my walk around he could get enough identifiable things to figure it out... mine has a power steering pump that his probably does not have but other then that they should be the same...

Oops, I wasn't paying close enough attention. I still needed to correct my head/block error.

The difference between a SC engine and a 240 is that there is a dip stick on the right hand side of the motor. Both engines where C123 engines meaning they are both 123 cubic inches. Both tractors where available with water pumps. The extra HP came from adjusting the govenor to get more RPM's out of the motor. The compression and bore and stroke are identical between the 2 engines.
