Removing a venturi

Whats the best way to change a venturi on a M carb? It seems to be stuck in there pretty good and I'm afraid I'm gonna break the casting

Some really good penetrating fluid and light tapping with a elf hammer . I use Zep penetrating fluid as i have found nothing that will match it . Just rebuilt the carb on my S/MTA and let me tell ya it was STUCK big time . Now my only problem is trying to decide on witch one i want to put in , do i want to go back to the stock one or do i want to go to the next one up or do i want to go all out and put the 1 1/8th one in it .

the operative word USUALLY does not always apply to there removal. and PB blasters sofar the only thing i have found it good for is killing wasps spiders and bee's.

Got to agree with you Tractor Vet. I have heard so much about PB Blaster, so decided to try it. Was not impressed at all. Think I will go back to my other old stand by's.

I agree. I like Lawson's Non-Flamable Penetrant.

if your pulling it try and rent the sled thats great for testing a venturi after all it's the one that pulls the farthest not the one that produces the most horse power.

If you are referring to JB-80 we used a ton of that when I worked at the ag retailer. It was pretty good stuff.

Edit - As I think, we didn't get that from Lawson. We got that right from the Justice Bros guy.

Use the appropriate size deep socket as a punch to drive it out from the top. You'll have to remove the throttle shaft and butterfly. Use the closed/square side of the socket against the venturi and tap against the open/hex side. It with come right out without damage.

Use a torch and heat the area around the venturi. Get it good and hot, but do NOT heat the venturi itself. Spray PB blaster on it as it cools, walk away from it until it is completely cool, and you can take that venturi out with your bare hands. The use of a hammer or any other excessive force will only result in a broken and useless venturi.

I managed to get it out without destroying anything. I heated heated the casting and tapped it rite out with a socket and a small brass hammer. Thanks everyone!

I hear ya. there a lot of soup'd up old tractors that have big hp and a really poor torque curve. They spend big $ and sometimes end up right back in same the weight class they pulled in with a stock motor.

I agree, the Zep 45 penetrating oil is the best I've used but be prepared for the sticker shock... but does come in a big can.
