Engine guys - need some 806 (diesel) advice

I've had a big oil leak from between the front gear cover and the engine block ever since I've owned my 806. I've got her torn down now for a front end swap and have pulled the gear cover off to fix the leak. Trouble is, I'm not sure how to get the steel plate off that goes between the block and the gear cover. I know that there's a gasket that goes on each side of it, but it looks like it might be a big job to get that plate off. I hope not to have to pull the cam or any pressed gears off if I can avoid it. Any advice would be appreciated

YEP your going to have to pull the cam and the injection pump , the oil pump the rocker arms push rods and the lifters and and your idler gear and injection pump drive gear. . Lots of fun Oh and do not mix up the lifters as they have mated with that lobe on the cam .

Thanks Tractor Vet, I was afraid of that. Now that I think about it though, maybe that leak wasn't so bad after all. LOL

I have a camshaft gear installer tool that allows replacing the gear without removing the camshaft. It saves a lot of time on those engines that get damaged gears from a bad vibration damper.

Is it a special CaseIH tool or someone elses? If you could supply me a manufacturer and/or model number I'll check into it. Do you still need to preheat the gear to reinstall it with the tool? If not, what does it grab onto to push the gear against the press fit?

One thing I'm also curious about is that it sure looks to me like the cam is a tooth off on timing compared to my I&T manual illustration. The tractor seems to run fine with good power, so I'm a little afraid to re-time the cam if I do end up pulling it, but it bugs me that the timing mark doesn't currently line up with the one on the crank gear at TDC. I don't know if the manual has actual valve timing (crank angle at .050 valve lift, etc.) info in it that I could compare against with a degree wheel or not.
