130 starting problems

In the last month or so, I have replaced the points, condenser, distributor cap and rotor button on my 130. When I put the new cap and button on today, it started ok, but ran rough and died. I left it alone for a little while and when I went back out, I put my hand on the ignition coil and it was too hot to touch. Maybe related. or maybe not, but I have to disconnect the battery every time I park it or the battery is dead the next time I try to start it. And when I turn on the switch, it shows that the battery is discharging. Anyone got any ideas?

Coil being hot says that either you left the switch on or your switch is not working any more and you have power to the coil at all times. As far as starting hard that could be a number of things from a carb problem to weak spark or bad new parts

If you have an alternator on the tractor, it could have a bad diode internally. (or it could be a "one Wire" alternator that drains the battery any way. If a generator, it is likely OK, but may have a faulty ignition switch, or wired wrong. THe points may be gapped wrong, and the coil may bave been overheated now, but may be OK. Fixing the wiring first is most important. Jim
