Farmall C - - oil pump priming ?

Guys -

Son is overhauling a C as I type.

Question: Is the oil pump self priming, or is there a proceedure to get oil pressure quickly? I suggested pulling the plugs and running the starter for about 30 seconds or so until some pressure shows on the gauge. And, yes, the plate on the oil pump cover has been re-machined flat.

Thoughts ?

Pete

Its self priming but its a good idea to spin the motor with no plugs or use a pressure preluber. That way you know you have oil pressure when you fire it up the first time.

He should've set the oil pump in a container of clean engine oil and rotated the drive gear until the pump was primed. Then installed the pump. Just do short engine cranks using the starter and see if the oil gauge moves. Hal

If you lubed the bearing journals it will be fine and like you said a few turns with the starter will have the pump making oil every where. I have never had anyproblems getting the pump to work. I like to take the oil pressure guage out turn the engine over till i see oil install and go for it. Make sure the stud on the center of the tappet is clear as thats where the oil flows for the rockers..

I packed mine with vaseline as well and I think the shop manual said to do that. No problems when I rebuilt my super C

You can squirt oil into the oil pressure fitting with a pump type oil can if you want instant pressure. (I do) Jim
