International 656 hydro (gas)

I just bought a international 656 hydro (gas) and tried it out for the first time this weekend. This is my first tractor. I will be using it for food plots for deer and doing chores around our hunting property. It was almost empty so I added 12 gallons of gas. The tractor ran great for the first 2hrs. I made my way through the woods and it started killing on me like it would be running out of gas. I could immediately start it up and run fine for 10 to 20 minutes before it will do it again. It will always start right up and run. A branch did catch one of my plug wires but I put it on and I was on my way. What could make it run so intermittently? All plug connections are tight. The gas I put in was new. It sounds great while it's running. THANK YOU for your help.

Could be restricted gas. Have you pulled the drain plug on the bottom of the carb to make sure you have strong gas flow? If you do not you may need to check the sediment bowl, look in the tank or try loosening the fuel cap. Often older tractors have rust in the tank.

I have a 756 that the previous owners had the same problem. They changed out the gas tank -didn't help. Then they changed the sediment bowl. While changing it they hit a wrench onto the battery terminal while loosening the fuel line fitting. Puff they had a fire.
They got it somewhat repaired and sold it at a auction cheap. I bought it and found that I had to hold the choke out part way to keep it running. I found most of the history after I bought the tractor (just knew it burned before the sale). While trying to figure out the choke/running problem, it finally got bad enough that it wouldn't start at all.
I found that the fuel shut off seleniod on the carb was bad. Fixed it and no more troubles. When I first got the tractor home it would run for 15-20 minutes before it died, slowly got worse. The worse it got, the farther out I needed to hold the choke.

Thanks for all the help. I am going to work on it this weekend. Would it hurt to put a fuel filter before the carb just in case something gets by? I found the solenoids are not that expensive. Might try one of those too.
