anyone ever use a good product in place of oil pan gasket? I have a massey 44d and need to get the oil pan back on and fire it up but need to do so while I wait for my new gasket to show up

I second that. Use the black rtv. One continuous bead. Let it dry. Then coat both CLEAN surfaces with a thin film of the same rtv. Works good if both are clean. Don't work worth a darn if they are dirty! Break cleaner them both. Wipe and repeat. Then after an air dry and some time to evaporate!! Propane hand torch to burn off any oil or residue! Should work great! May not even need a gasket! Just have patience!

Acetone is also a good cleaner for this type of job.
It evaporates really quick and leaves no residue.

Just a note:
Don't smooth out the silicone. Leave it in a thick bead on the oil pan so it will spread evenly.
If it is spread out and too thin in an area it won't have enough material there to make a good even seal.
When you bolt the pan back on the bead will spread evenly and be thick enough to make a really good seal.

When you first install the pan, don't torque the bolts up tight. After the RTV has a chance to cure, then torque to the proper value.

Also, don't just glop it on. If you use too much, you run the risk of a glob squeezing out on the inside & falling into the engine.
