I am working on a farmall M carb. I was told the float should be set at 1 5/16. How is this set? With the float lifted, and thats the spec from the top of the bowl?
Didn't get any instruction with new float.
Caould somebody please expain how to adjust.

Thanks Jack

Your service manual would most likely have a drawing to help with this. On the most recent one I did (not an M) the drawing showed the measurement as being from the top of the gasket to a point on the float and was adjusted by bending the arms on the float.

Set with carb upside down, float resting on needle and seat. That double float can require some tricky bending in the correct places. Make sure pivot pin isn't flopping around, should be pinched in the one end of retainer and no excessive side movement. Also, they tend to touch sides of carb so watch that also. Float drop is l 15/16 with float hanging down, carb right side up. Those needle and seats give a lot of trouble also, I always stake the seat with a "special" tool I have. Actually I use a old pintle from and injection nozzle tip, works great. Seems that who ever mfgs them can't make a nice round hole with a good seat in it. Say, leakers.

Pete 23 has given you the good information. Total drop should be about 1-15/16" max (carb held right side up).
