Farmall super A skipping

I have a 1953 Super A and just had a basic tune up and carb rebuild and the tractor engine is cutting out or skipping, mostly in a up hill pull on the highway in third and fourth. It is a pretty constant skip as I drove it for two miles. It had a rebuild carb kit, new plugs, points and condenser, new fuel bowl and gas has been drained and it is clean in sediment bowl. The wires were not changed but they look fairly new. Could it be something internally in the engine or have I left something out to check? I am not a very good mechanic but do know that solving problems sometimes is a process of elimination. Any help would be most appreciated.

Simple would be a bad plug wire or wobbly connection, a burned or cracked cap or burned rotor button. A little more depth could be valve adjustment/poor seating or weak compression in one or more cylinders. A little scarier-sounding but not all that bad a project could be worn bushings on the shafts inside the distributor which would cause the shaft to wobble just enough to miss a spark as the rotor makes its way around the cap. Look for the simple stuff first.

Check spark plug wires. If they are 'composite'/silicone,that could be your problem.use solid copper/steel wires, they have far less resistance than silicon.I have aSM that had thje same problem, solid core fixed the problem...Has'nt missed a lick since(20 yrs ago!)

cousin said the same thing that it may be wires and he said watch what quality I buy. Thanks I will get on it tomorrow.
