h mystery head

i bought a h for parts and the head has no casting number. the only thing i see cast into the top of the head is a "L". has anyone ever seen this before? i'd like to know if it's a gas head, or distilate.

How about a couple pictures. Do you know how many cc's the combustion chaimbers are? Is there a breather port on the back of the head, I think it is 1/4 npt.

If you can find a part number on the valve you can determine if head is kero, dist or gasoline but not vintage.

head is still on the tractor, casting # is not ground off. there is a "L" cast into it where the casting number is supposed to be. it has a breather on the back of the head like its supposed to. is it aftermarket? the only other head i've seen without a casting number, is on a friends m, and it has 150psi compression with 3 7/8 bore flat top pistons. any ideas?

Have you removed the valve cover as I recall on my M the casting number is on the top of the head about in the center under the valve cover. Hope this helps, but it has been awhile since I've looked for the head casting number, Hal.

After looking at your first post that started this thread you can disregard my earlier comment as it would be obvious you have the valve cover off if you are looking at the top of the head, sorry for the confusion, Hal.
