I would appreciate any helpful advice on how to replace the oil/grease seal on the bottom of the worm and sector housing on my Farmall 300. I"ve got the pivot shaft out. I"ve replaced the bushings, bearings, etc, but I"ve ruined 3 grease seals trying to seat them. I"ve tried placing the pivot shaft in from the top to act as a guide for the seal as it is driven from the bottom - all goes well until the seal is about 1/2 way home. I"ve been as careful as I can be but no luck.

A driver can be purchased, (or made with a lathe) to be about .010" smaller than the OD of the seal.
Make it as long as you can and still have room for tapping it into position. It must be perfectly flat to the bore when starting the insertion, and if cocked at all start over. Putting a swipe of grease on the outer edge is a good idea as well.
Look at the bore and make sure there are no burrs or lips from shaft removal in it before starting.
THey can be difficult to start. Jim

Thank you Jim - I"ll try again. I think that part of the problem is that the new grease seal is very flimsy compaired with the original seal. Yes, getting it started is the trick part. Steve.
