I am in the process of dismantling the steering gear box on my SA so that I can eliminate the excessive play in the steering wheel. I have the front axle removed, and the gear box split, but I cannot get the control arm loose from its shaft, which is preventing the removal of the lower half of the gear box.

I have searched for a puller that might work but so far have not come up with anything that will fit.

Any suggestions how to break that arm loose?

Though it is a struggle, it is good that it is tight, many come loose and cause dramatic looseness at that point. A torch to heat the outside of the joint to beyond touchable, but not roasting the grease, a puller that will reash under the arm, and or a solid strike with a drift punch and 2 pound hammer on the side of the joint is what I use. couple puller options , a pitman arm puller, a bearing splitter, or a pickle fork for tie rods or one for ball joints (2 different sizes), napa will have em.

Pickle fork between the arm and housing... leave the nut on loosely to protect threads. Heat the pitman arm red hot and smack the nut with a big hammer...
