Super C, Brace between front end and bell housing.

We have a Farmall Super C wide front. On either side of the engine there is a brace that runs from the Bell housing to the front end.
The brace is about 1" round rod. At the bell housing it is welded to a flat plate and bolted to the bell housing with two bolts. On the front it bolts to the piece that sticks out front to limit front axle pivot.
I have not seen another like it. It looks factory. The problem is that is is so close to the air cleaner every time we go to check/change the air cleaner oil we have to unbolt the air cleaner and swing it out to get the bowl off.

So my question is, is this factory? Factory option? Is it necessary? Does the Super C have problems cracking the front end without it? I am tempted to take them off... Actually the right hand side doesn't bother, only below the air cleaner.

Any thoughts.. thank you.

Its not factory. A inventive engineer's design to take the stress off the engine block to prevent cracks.

Yes,and its a good idea, too. You could tweak the brace on the left a bit to clear the air breather and steering shaft. The bock cracks where the bolster fastens to it,if they are used rough.

Good idea and I would just keep servicing the cleaner as you are. There are many Small frameless Farmalls with welds, and plenty of unusable blocks as well. Jim

Here's my question: Are you going to use the tractor?

If you are, leave the braces.

They're not necessary on a trailer queen.

Do you have a welder and torch, and room to modify the left one to give you some clearance under the air cleaner? Cut a section out, then weld another piece of rod to the bottom of it. Or make a new one, where you drop the rear rod down on the mount, to give you more air cleaner clearance.
