I'm restoring a 1951 Farmall H. I plan to purchase 12.4 x 38 (45 degree lug) rear tires, which should look fairly original. Not sure what style of front tire to purchase to make it look original. The current tires are two rib 5.50 x 16. Can anyone give me any info. on what style front tire came on the H in 1951 ? Two rib, three rib, etc. ??

Thanks

There were several options for the front tires, but you will be very hard pressed to find anything other than the 3 rib today.

If you don't want the nose of your H pointing toward a tree'd koon, then go with 5.50 tri-ribs today.

Stuart,
I have an IHC dealer's order form for a 1950 H.

Front tires were 5.50 x 16, 4 ply, 3 rib.
If you wanted 6.00 x 16 then you paid $3.50 extra ($1.75 each!). 6 plys were not available from factory.

Rears (and options):
11.00 x 38, 4 ply, standard.
10.00 x 38, 4 ply, deduct $26.00 a pr.
10.00 x 38, 6 ply, deduct $5.00 a pr.
11.00 x 38, 6 ply, add $25.00 a pr.
12.00 x 38, 6 ply, add $51.00.

Times were tough in those days, so not many farmers would pay $3.50 extra for larger fronts, but they often ordered the 10.00 x 38 for the credit of $26.00 as that was big bucks back then.

And all tires on an H at that time were Firestone, according to my info.

Mornin' folks; this tire discussion get me wondering if all/most of these old tractors came w/the, what I call, corrugated sidewalls? I like the looks of them. I remember them on my late dad's John Deere H we used for tobacco. Enjoy your day folks - mid 80's for SW Wisc.

those new 45degreee tires look like their made is china .i would buy firestone tires for it just for the looks and resale value
