Paint for Super A

I will be painting my Super A that I'm restoring.
I would like to know what type of paint to use.
Acrylic Enamel, Urethane or Base coat/clear coat. This will be somewhat of a show tractor but will also be used for light duty.
Also is there a cross referance number from the IH paint to DuPont or PPG?
Thanks for any advice.

You ranked them in the order of good enough to best. IH 50 crosses to PPG 70019/DuPont 7410. IH 2150 crosses to PPG 71310/Dupont 96766. The 2150 equivalent is what most people use, but did not appear until 1961. If pre 1949.5 your tractor came with IH 50, if post 1949.5 it came with IH IH 1102b--I do not have a cross for that one.

The PPG Omni line is a good choice... nice results whether you use single stage or two stage, and the cost isn't overwhelming. I painted two tractors with this system. I went with the two stage.

If you mean base-clear, MTK is Omni single stage urethane, MBC is the base of the base clear. MTK and MBC are the same price/gal (here, anyway). The clear adds about $73/gallon to that cost. I like it because it buffs much better than MTK.

Yes, not only does it buff out nice, but with the clear coat you can touch up sags and other imperfections where you can't with the single stage

Keep in mind that any of the high end paints with hardeners require the use of a fresh air supplied breathing system. Filters will not protect you. Fumes from those paints are very dangerous. Breathing fairly small amounts can kill you.

Yes, most paint salesmen don't know that, including mine. Not many people have been killed by it, just makes them wish they were dead. They end up with severe emphysema-like symptoms, then they can't tolerate it at all. The effects are cumulative, some people can tolerate higher amounts. Problem is you don't know if the 1st application or the 50th will cause severe reactions. Not worth the risk, I used supplied air the first time I painted with iso's.

I used PPG's Omni single stage 71310 on this Troy Bilt tiller in 2006. It still looks good. I used a hvlp spray gun when spraying it. Hal
