Value of Farmall 350

I have the opportunity to swap a nice 1950 Deere B for a Farmall 350 and am needing to know the value of the IH. The plan is to sell the 350 at a charity auction this fall but our thinking is that the Deere will bring more at the sale due to the collector appeal of old Deere's. Before swapping though I would like to be sure that this is a fair trade so as to not short-change the charity organization. I haven't seen it yet but my father reports that it is in nice original condition with an IH wide front, 2-point hitch, good rear tires but truck tires on the front, and straight sheetmetal. He is currently repairing the non-working TA, tach, ammeter, and several other parts at our expense. The tractor is located in Colorado. Any ideas on its approximate value in the as-is (not yet repaired) condition? Thanks in advance.

In Eastern CO, western KS, I would top it out at about $2500, under "normal" conditions. At a charity auction it could and probably will bring more. I don't know what part of KS Brendon is from, closer to Missouri they might bring more. There aren't that many seviceable 300/350's out here, although 3 have sold at auctions in the last month or so--don't know what they brought because they are too heavy for my 7000 lb GVW trailer. One excellent, one junk and one in between.

Look up the value of a same condition B (there are probably several for sale here, and on craigs list, Ebay etc. Compare the conditions. My guess is the Deere is more valuable. Jim

Thanks for the responses, guys. The charity auction is held in SE Colorado. The weight thing is one reason that we think the Deere might be a little more valuable to a collector. Since it weighs a good 1000 lbs less, it makes it a little easier to haul to shows, etc. Plus, it is a little more "antique" and less "modern". But, for what I use my tractors for (hobby farm work), the 350 would be a lot more capable and useful. My plan would be that if the B does not bring more than the value of the 350 at the auction then I could donate the difference to the charity so nobody looses.

I probably live within 100 miles of there -- what is the name of the auction place, or does he have a website? Or maybe you are your own auctioneers?

Doesn't sound like much of a trade to me. A working JD for an IH that is going to be fixed at "your expense". With the TA and such, you could spend a couple grand or more easy. I not sure the others spotted that in your post. Sell your JD and give the TA fix expense to the charity in greenbacks.

I don"t mind if the charity gets the better end of the deal since it goes to a very good cause. Just want to make sure that they don"t loose on the deal. Dad discovered that the TA just needs some clutch parts since the gears look good so that will reduce the fixing expenses.

Thank you all for the input; it makes me feel better about what we are thinking.

The aucton is part of the Mennonite Central Committe relief sale held each year in Rock Ford, CO in mid-October. Proceeds go to overseas and domestic mission and relief efforts. They always like to have a restored tractor on the sale bill since they typically sell well and generate some added interest.
