How come I can't find strike anywhere matches ANYWHERE anymore? I live in s.central Il., and want some for my camping kit. The strike on box kind are a pain in the butt. Does anyone know of any business that still sells them? I know that they used to use the tips to make explosives, but crimeny, there are a bijillion things out there you can make explosives out of just as easily, if not easier, and THEY are still on the market.

I haven't seen them in years either and I would like some for the same reason. I guess we aren't responsible enough to have them. lol

I think they have been made illegal in some places on a local/state basis. The reason is that they are a pretty unsafe with careless handling. Ever see anyone try to light a whole box at once by throwing it on the ground? Fairly impressive when it works.

Back to your original question, I have found them on both eBay and Amazon. You may have shipping problems.

Diamond still makes them. They call them strike anywhere matches. I lite them off of my belt buckle. Never had any luck off a boot like in the westerns on TV.

sgtbull; I like this post. Gosh, I have an empty box at the desk next to this computer and a partial box on the coffee table...how unsafe am I??? Forgot about this empty box; was going to make a comment some place/day about the last "Product Features" item: Portable...what would a person do without portable matches??? triple w dot diamondbrands.com Now I reminisce, remember the cute old decorative Ohio Blue Tip matchboxes? I miss seeing them on top of my grandma"s wood cook stove she lit every morning back in the 1960"s...those childhood farm memories are priceless.

There almost impossible to find in WC_IN / EC-IL. Grocery store where we use to buy them quit handling them after a casre of them caught fire while been unloaded from the truck.

I know one time my wife tossed me a box of them about 3-4' and they caught fire. First time I ever saw them do that & I've been around them for over 50 years.

Grandpa used to light them with his thumbnail or if showing off He would light them off his teeth. Pretty impressive for a 10 year old boy!

I lite them off my fingernail before. When the stuff at the tip starts to burn it melts.
When it get"s stuck to your fingernail burning you won"t do that trick anymore.

There are a number of places in the Iowa City, Iowa area, where I live, where they can be bought. But, as you say, they are more of a rare breed. In fact, for quite some time, I could never find them, but now they are available at at least two or three places locally. I don't suppose you can buy them over the internet, but maybe you can. Have you Googled it? Otherwise, contact some friends in nearby places and have them look for you and then mail them to you or bring them to you.
Good luck, because I like them too.

im looking for some too, i was digging thru a box of way old junk-i mean old collectables lol and found my metal waterproof match container i got from dad when i went into the boy scouts in the early '60's hadnt seen that in at least 35 years thought it might be neat to carry again, not sure how old it was when given to me, may even be wwll service issue about a inch around 4 or so long with a sealed screw off top, had a knob in the midle when pulled it raise the whole inside to access the matches

I think some states have made them illegal. Hard to believe, but they're still available here in the land of make-a-law-to-restrict-everything... I hate the strike on box kind too.

Funny related story. Friend was in the woods a horseback with some pack animals. Goin down the trail he started to see smoke coming out from the pack on one of the horses. Got in a big hurry and unloaded the pack. Turns out the half box of strike any-where's had lit themselves from the friction of sliding around with the back-and-forth motion of the horse walking. He remembered to package em so they couldn't slide around from there on out...

Like Jeff Z, back in the smoking days I could light them with the thumbnail, didn"t take long to learn how not to do it. We used to be able to get Ohio Blue Tips, haven"t seen them for years. I"ve got a box of Strike Anywhere from WM in the camper and the shop.

I think the Pennsylvania Dutch and Mennonite stores in south central MO. keeps them in stock.

I'll look next time I am through there.

We used to take the tips off of one or two and force them into the hollow back end of a lead, .22 caliber pellet. Then wedge the end of the stick in behind the tips, cut the stick off flush with the back of the pellet, then put it in the pellet rifle and shoot it at something hard. Makes a nice "pop" upon impact.

Dad rolled his own smoks and lite them by striking the match on the Big Mac buttons on his overalls

My woman just bought me a couple of boxes of them last week here in Alabama. Diamond brand.
However, in my opinion, they don't "strike anywhere" as well as they used to. Very difficult to get to strike on objects other than the side of the box. However, they will occasionally strike on other objects with some difficulity.
