I have what I believe is a very early Model A Farmall.
Serial No. FAA 9897. I understand they started production in
1939. Is there anyway to tell exactly what year it was made?
Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Early 1941, see http://www.ytmag.com/cgi-bin/snlookup.cgi?mf=FARMALL&md=A,+AV,+B+and+BN

First FAA in 1940 was 6744 and the last one 41499 so a total of As,AVs,Bs and BNs built at the Chicago works would have been 34,755 total for the year 1940. You can tell which days your cast parts were made by looking at the codes. There will be a # then a day followed by the letter J which is 1940 example 4+10+J would mean April10,1940. There is no specific way to tell the actual day it rolled off the assy line. They were usually built around 30 days following the cast codes The different models of those series came down the line and got the next serial# reguardless of the model A series or B seriesas all were assembled on the same line in Chicago till 47 when both series were also built in Louisville. Those started with serial#200,000
