I am working on a super A, it hasnt been run in 12 yrs, lots of rust in tank, whats the bestmethod (without buying new tank) of cleaning tank and preventing rusty gas from getting into carb etc...

well, there are lots of different ways depending upon how badly it is rusted. I will tell you what I do, and it will be the same as some, and different from others.

First, I use phosphoric acid (naval jelly) to disolve the existing and active rust. Some people will use drywall screws and roll the tank around to loosen rust scale if the inside is really bad. Rinse thoroughly 3 times with clear water. Then rinse with a baking soda solution. About 4 tablespoons in a gallon works. drain and rinse 1 more time with clear water. Let dry thoroughly in the sun.
I then rinse with acetone. Let dry. I then use an epoxy gas tank liner product.

You will never have a rust problem again. As always, IMHO.

PS: You will also need some muriatic acid before using this kit.

I have heard where people strap them to a tractor wheel with ball bearings or clean 1 inch gravel stones in the tank. then they drove around. Tank comes out like it has been shot blasted. then rinse with clean fuel or acid.
