turbo sleeve what are these seals???

What are these hexagon parts of the seal kit and how do they fit in there?

the seals are piston rings and the hexagon things are expanders for under thee rings.

did you just find them someplace and wonder what they are? seems funny to me that someone does not know what piston rings are.so i take it your not putting an engine together are you?

Those are not piston rings! They are seal rings that fit on the connector sleeve shown that connects the turbo to the exhaust elbow on IH Melrose 400 series engines and others. The hexagon rings are expanders for the sleeve seals.

Yes, I am putting an engine together and I do know what the seal rings are. I just didnt know how the hexagon expanders came into play. I dont have the replacement parts yet, only the photo.

they are piston rings. they are just useing them for sealing rings in the turbo to elbow connection.
