I have been using H tractors for years and just think a whole lot of them. My favorite tractor ever, but I am getting a little longer in the tooth now and have been considering putting live hydraulics and maybe even live pto on a early model super H that does not have live hydralics. I might buy. Bottom line is it practical to put a live pump on an H or early super H. Also I am thinking about converting to a wide front end and a loader for moving round bales. Any done this and what is your advise??

I like the H as well and a wide front would be nice. Live hydraulic is possible H but live PTO would be difficult.

You could buy yourself a 300 or 350 and get hose features built-in, plus a few extra horsepower. You could put H sheet metal on it and call it a "Super H-TA" if you want.

Moving small round bales would be ok but an H is too light for the big loader you would need for moving big round bales. The torque tube breaks about where the Lift-All goes.
 
Live PTO is not possible, without swapping out the WHOLE rear end of the tractor with one from a 300 or 350 Farmall.

If you're going to do that why not just run the 300 or 350?

A 300 or 350 would give you all the features you want plus a TA, in a tractor that's just as handy as the Super H.
 
There have been Super H-TA's built but I don't know how straightforward it is. In the worst case, you could use the H side rails and bolster. Then your remaining concerns would be about moving things around under the gas tank.
 
As others have said the live hyds is doable, just need to find a distributor driven pump, such as M&W.

Closest you can come to live pto would be to find a M&W or Heisler hand clutch. They show up once in awhile on e-bay.
 
If it is a SH it will take the pump from a Stage 2 SH, or 300-350. The M&W pump could be made for the earlier (pre mid 1950) H. Some might be for the newer bolt spacing. Jim
