Overrunning Clutch

I just installed an overrunning clutch on my M. I haven"t hooked up the Bush Hog yet but I have a concern. The overrunning clutch has some slop in it (wiggles, etc). I"m assuming this is due to the design but won"t that wobble cause an unacceptable amount of vibration? I don"t want to ruin a new Bush Hog or worse yet, a vintage piece of American engineering (my beloved M).

Better check that your P.T.O. dosen't bottom out when you turn. Sometimes you have to shorten the shaft the lenght of the overrunning clutch.

The clutch could be put at the gearbox end of the shaft. I agree it could cause issues if the tail of it moves more than seems reasonable (maybe 1/2 inch). It would take redesign to put it on the rear of the shaft, but as long as it was positioned to drive in the correct direction, it will work well. Jim

Plug it in and try it before worrying too much. They all have some free play, and the shaft tends to self center on its axis. Keep in mind that the shaft turns less than 10 times per second.
