IH 140 transmission fluid

The owners manual states to use IH Hytran fluid in the transmission. But this seems like pretty lightweight oil to be used in a transmission. And the transmission seems to be noisy. What do other people use for transmission fluid?

Thank you in advance.

Use what the manual calls for! All the large high horsepower tractors from the 560 to current model tractors use Hytran in the transmission. If its good enough for them its plenty good enough for a little 140. By the way 140 transmissions are known to be noisy, they were that way since the day they rolled off the assembly line.

Since there's no TA or hydraulics using the transmission sump on a 140, there's no technical reason to use Hy-Tran.

Other than possibly the gear ratios, the 140 transmission should be for all intents and purposes identical to the Super A, which uses heavy gear oil in the transmission.

Heavy gear oil will quiet the gear noise.

I have a '66 140 since new. I switched to 80w-90 (Walmart SuperTech) from Hy-Tran about six years ago. I am quite happy with it.
