Farmall M throttle Saw tooth vs Square tooth

Hello. I have a 1943 Farmall M. When I got it it had the M&W throttle on it. My question is which is the correct throttle for 1943, saw or square. Why did they make two different one? Do you all know which years were which? THANKS ALL

It has been a long time since I saw this set up but am wondering if you may have that plate with the saw tooth upside down? Just a guess onmy part, without seeing it.

your m was already an old tractor until ih came out with the improved throttle control with the replacable key. the friction disc aftermarket is by far the best.

I cannot answer the date of change question, but very few judges get too excited about M&W parts. (much better than either original)
The saw tooth stayed in place better when fresh, but wares out easier, The square tooth is disappointing in general, especially with a week spring. I would leave it as is, unless going to a picky competition. Jim

It came with a saw tooth. Square tooth came later, probably in the Super series. Square tooth is my preference, as I have driven an H with both. The M&W one, to me, looks junky, and would be the first part I would toss. Saw tooth is available aftermarket, I don't know if the square tooth is.

The square tooth was a later improvement and could be classed as a "field upgrade" But yeah, I prefer the M&W friction style myself.

If you ever have any M&Ws to toss toss them my way and I will toss a few dollars back. I like them.

I only have one that is on an H that needs everything. Probably just going to sell the whole tractor sometime. To me, the sawtooth plate is only one thing that makes the Farmalls different from other tractors. Yes they wear fairly easily, but are easily replaced. When cultivating small crops, we used to count the number of notches that the throttle was advanced so we could duplicate the speed. It worked very well.

Anyone have any pictures of the M&W one? My H and one of my Ms have the sawtooth style (both worn badly and have to be held in place with a clamp) and my other M has the square tooth kind, that stays wherever I put it.
