There are no Standard Tread illustrations on caseih.com. No pictures on this site either.

Could someone post a picture of the W-400/450 tach bracket. I am assuming it attaches to steering column. Also assuming the tach cable comes through the knockout plug near the bottom of the sheet metal cowl.

Thanks.

Mounts with the same hardware as a Farmall on the 450 and later 400. Don't remember if most of the W 400 used a dash encloser like a lot of farmall 400 did. Plate was knocked out and the hole reshaped at top to install tach. Later 400 and all 450 had a hole to fit tach and a screw mounted cover when the tach wasn't used. Don't have a picture or a W series.

F-400 serial # 519.

I installed this tach. The large knock-out blank for tach was intact previously.

W-400 serial # 1728.

I believe the tach mounts like this. The bracket is a Cub tach bracket. It is not likely to be correct for a W-400. The white arrow points to a small knock-out where I think the tach cable runs. That knock-out is not found on a F-400. There is no large tach knock-out on the W-400 due to the hydraulic lever linkages.

Tractors that came with the tach hole in the shroud have the hole to the left side. Looked in a parts book, they changed the shroud at serial # 3304 on a 400. It doesn't show the tach for a 400 below that serial # in a 400 parts book. Tach it shows in a W400 and W450 parts book uses all the same parts as a row crop including the cable clips. Only thing different is the cable with the tach mounted on the left. I do have some information on tach kits and installing instructions that IH sold to add on, don't remember if a W400 is in there. Probably won't be able to look for a few days.

My TC-55 Farmall 400-450 parts book has one picture with the tach hole on right side. It lists two descriptions. The first is for Farmall 400 tractors 501 to 23615. The tach hole cover and screws are included.

The second is for F-400 from 23516 to "up" and F-450 from 501 to "up". No mention of tach hole cover. Must be an oversite.

Can't say that I have ever seen a left side tach hole. Maybe I can find a picture in one of my books. It seems from what you say, my F-400 tach should have been installed on the left. But I think a recess was there on the right similar to the embossed "hole" in a Cub dash panel.

It's been many years since I installed the tach on the F-400. For some reason, I thought I had to knock out the sheetmetal "plug" or use a hole saw rather than remove a screwed on cover. I'll have to take a closer look tomorrow to see if the nuts are embedded or whether they are separate.

Just for the halibut, below is a F-450 shroud
