I have a farmall M which sat for aboout 4 years and got it running by pulling it...now that I have a new battery I tried to start it and chocked it and gas poured out of the carb....what is the problem float seems to be ok.....ran fine the other day...want it running by sing the starter.....an help would be appreciated.....thanks

When chokeing that tractor it would be normal for excess gasoline to flow out of drip hole on carb if it does not start. If it ran good when you pulled it to start I would say you have some other issues like ignition causing it to not start with the starter.

There's something about the Hs and Ms, they just don't like that choke.

I always start mine about 2/3 throttle without the choke. After it pops off, if it tries to stutter and cough, then and only then do I give it a small amout of choke just to clean it up.

If I try to start 'em using the choke initially, they won't even start unless it is down around zero or below.

I have that same problem with my 656 when I haven't started it for a long time. If it doesn't start right away, gas will start dripping out of the carburetor. I shut the gas off at the gas tank and let the carb dry out and then try it again. It usually fires right up then.

Yes, that is exactly the same procedure I use. During EXTREME cold weather, I may have to pull the choke to get it to fire, but I only pull the choke AFTER attempting to start without it.

Same here. Usually 3/4 throttle and no choke. It will usually fire right up. If it's been sitting for a few days I will sometimes have to pull for a second after it fires up, to keep it running. Once it idles for a minute it's always good to go.
